Welcome to The Book of Style!

Ever since I was a little girl I've loved fashion. I remember going to the hairdresser's with my mom and two younger sisters and just gathering the back issues of Vogue, W, Elle, and Allure next to me and spending the afternoon paging through them. There I was even introduced to the plus size magazine Mode and which totally expanded my horizons.

However, I still struggle(d) with being able to predict trends and dress anyone and everyone around me, but not myself. Finding Polyvore, which has allowed me to stretch my stylist tendencies to their limit and beyond, has highlighted that gap to me. I struggle(d) with my own self-image and because I am plus sized and Black and I absorbed the not so subtle messages of society and "friends" that I wasn't allowed to be as pretty, as feminine, as stylish, or as fierce because I am fat Black and poor. and I think I'm finally beginning to address that for myself in a way that can be broadcast and written about on style blog.

I can't promise that this blog will be prettily packaged awesomeness at every turn, since it will be a lot of me working through  my issues, really exploring make up for the first time (Hello, Mary Kay!), and basically figuring out how to get the fashionista style I desire in plus size and on a strict budget. If you are interested in any of that, I would love for you to come along with me on my journey to making the sense style I have in mind a tangible reality.
